Day 5: COLLEGE FOOTBALL

Thank you God for College Football!

What would be life without football...college football.  Life without Casey Matthews? Not okay.  Growing up going to UCLA games and being a bruin it was inevitable that I would end up at a Pac 10 school such as the University of Oregon.  I'm really struggling this quarter because football has officially ended  (Congrats Clay Matthews by the way), its going to be a long few months awaiting the opening game.  But lets get real, how legit are the Ducks this year?  My freshman year and we make it to the BCS Game?!?!? Crazy!! I am now officially a Duck and will forever be. I LOVE MY DUCKS!!

Day 4: SHOES!

Due to a miserable World Religions Final and a really bad headache I once again am catching up with my 30 day challenge.
Today I am thinking about how thankful I am for shoes!  Most people don't think about being thankful for their shoes.  Sure im thankful to have them as part of my wardrobe! Lets get real, what girl doesn't enjoy going shoe shopping!  Here's why we should be thankful about shoes, according to TOMS:

Why Shoes?

Many children in developing countries grow up barefoot. Whether at play, doing chores or going to school, these children are at risk:
•A leading cause of disease in developing countries is soil-transmitted diseases, which can penetrate the skin through bare feet. Wearing shoes can help prevent these diseases, and the long-term physical and cognitive harm they cause.
•Wearing shoes also prevents feet from getting cuts and sores. Not only are these injuries painful, they also are dangerous when wounds become infected.
•Many times children can't attend school barefoot because shoes are a required part of their uniform. If they don't have shoes, they don't go to school. If they don't receive an education, they don't have the opportunity to realize their potential.
So go buy some TOMS!! They are my favorite shoes, next to my rainbows and every pair of TOMS you purchase, a pair is given to a child in need!

So I've been sitting in Starbucks, of course, going on my 4th hour studying for my World Religions Midterm and the sun is shining bright!...and I'm stuck studying. So confused since it was snowing yesterday.  So Im taking a little, much needed break right now.  As I was studying , I was reading about the Gospel of John and came across one of my favorite pieces of scripture that I thought I would share:

"I am the light of the world; he who follows me will no walk in darkness, but will have the light of life" - John 8:12

Day 3: FAMILY

I am SO thankful to have the family that I have! :)

"Families are like fudge - mostly sweet with a few nuts."  ~Author Unknown

Day 2: FAIL

Its was only the second day of my 30 day challenge and I already failed.  I had a great day yesterday and just got super side tracked.  While being at college I have become involved with YoungLife and just fell in love with the ministry and what its purpose is.  I recently just finished leadership training and will hopefully soon be leading Wyldlife, which is YoungLife for middle school.  I went to bed with a smile on my face just beaming with excitement :) ( as cheesy as that may sound)

So back to my 30 day challenge:

For today, (or yesterday) I am thankful for the Sun!

This past month in Eugene, the weather has been amazing!  Don't get  me wrong its still freezing but the sun was still visible.  I am a california girl and am not embarrassed to say it! I like the rain on occasion,  when I'm snuggled under a blanket with a good movie and hot chocolate..standard, but I'm not a fan of the consent gray sky and rain.  Its fun to experience new weather and to have actual seasons here in Eugene, however I have learned how much I love and appreciate the sun!  The nice, unusual winter eugene weather has gone away and the rain has returned, left me longing for the sun and spring break!

30 Day Challenge

So to kind of start off my blogging, I looked for some ideas.  One a came across was a 30 day challenge.  This 30 day challenge fit perfectly with Valentines Day so I decided to say one thing that I am thankful to have in my life, every day, for at least 30 days.  The first thing I am going to write about is only fitting because it is one of my best friends 18th birthday!

So one person that I am extremely grateful to have in my life is Catherine Gebhardt.

Catherine and I have known each other since, I don't even know when its been so long.  We grew up going to the same church as well as the same elementary, middle and high school.  Catherine is someone I would consider to be like a sister to me.  She has always been there for me when I needed her the most and is someone that I look up to as she inspires me everyday.  I have really enjoyed watching her grow as a leader and in her faith.  She's super smart and has a HUGE future a head of her. I have no clue where I would be without this girl and am loving the journey of faith that we go through together. So HAPPY BIRTHDAY CATHERINE JEAN GEBHARDT!  I am so thankful to have you in my life :)

Will You Be My Valentine?

So today is valentines day, the day of love.  Personally one of my favorite holidays.  I see so many people moping around wearing all black claiming that they hate valentines day and all the little things that go along with it.  Others may be stressing to make sure that their significant other stays happy.  Many people think that the only way to have a good Valentines day is to have a boyfriend or girlfriend to share it with.  However I think Valentines day is much bigger than that, and have just recently discovered why.  There are so many different meanings of love.  The love between a wife and husband or the love between a father and daughter, siblings, friends, animals, the love we have for certain foods or the love for a profession.  I believe that we should be celebrating all these types of love today.  Being so far from home, it is both exciting and scary sometimes.  Its easy to feel separated from the people back home.  However if I take a step back I realize how much love I have in my life, and all the love that I have to give out.  I believe that people should take this day as a reminder of how many people love and care for you.  And so what if you are single?!?

Today was a great Valentines day.  It was one that took me back to Elementary school.  I got to make home made cards to send to loved ones and got to put together valentines for all my hall mates.  Nothing beats walking though the halls of a dorm after a long day of classes and seeing piles of valentines in front of everybody's door, with special notes on the inside.

So I say take this day as a great way to tell and show the people in your life that you love them!

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails. . .And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love. - 1 Corinthians 13:4-13

A New Addiction

This is something completely new and different for me.  A lot of people I know have been doing blogs and recommended it so I thought why not?  It will be interesting sharing my thoughts and random events with the world, but I am one who loves to talk and share with people so I just thought what better way to share my life with the people most important in my life and to those who I may not know so well.  I start this blog to not only share my thoughts and experiences with others but also to hold myself accountable for certain things I want to accomplish.  I feel the beginning may be rough, being that I have no clue what to write about so just bare with me through what I think is going to be very awkward, but then again being awkward is just a daily occurrence for me and my friends.  Anyway I feel as though this will become a new addiction for me along with Facebook, texts from last night, like a little and youtube, but whats one more right?
